Soil types

Predominately rich black soil of a very high quality.
The topsoil layer is usually thick and low on rock and stone.
Even the clay soil, which dominates along rivers, is fertile.
Lighter soil can be found in some areas.

Precipitation

Ranges from 500 mm to 1 200 mm, depending on the altitude.

The primary agricultural crops are:

  • Rapeseed
  • Sunflower
  • Sugar beets

Crop yield

Crop yield naturally depends heavily on the intensity of cultivation, precipitation, irrigation, etc.
Generally crop yield comparable to Denmark can be achieved.
However irrigation may be necessary some years.

  • Barley: 6-10 ton/ha
  • Wheat: 6-10 ton/ha
  • Corn: 6-11 ton/ha
  • Sunflower: 3-4 ton/ha
  • Rape seed: 3-5 ton/ha
  • Soybean: 2-4 ton/ha
  • Sugar beet: 40-60 ton/ha
  • Potatoes: 40-60 ton/ha
